Wilderness is a much different concept in Japan than in the United states...In Japan, there is a word which loosely translates to the Western concept of wilderness, Satoyama. It means "the border between a village and the foothills to the mountains". I read about Satoyama before my trip to Japan by a blogger named Eleanor Wilson - ( https://pages.stolaf.edu/esj-2019/author/wilson11/) The imagery in this gallery is inspired by the concept and the juxtaposition one sees between nature, neon, and people while traveling throughout the country.
